Venkatesananda Saraswati (or Swami Venkatesananda) 29 December 1921 in Tanjore, South India–2 December 1982 in Johannesburg, South Africa), known previously as Parthasarathy, was a disciple of Sivananda Saraswati. He received his spiritual training at the Divine Life Society in Rishikesh, India, and disseminated his master's teachings in South Africa, Mauritius, Australia, and New Zealand.
Venkatesananda said that he had been specially commissioned by his master, Sivananda, to spread the gospel of goodness – the four words: "Be good, do Good,." Swami Venkatesananda is also called Siva-Pada-Renu (dust of Siva's feet), a title conferred to him by Swami Sivananda, his guru.

She is a certified senior Jungian analyst. Jack Kornfield is a best-selling author and leading voice in modern Buddhism. Jack

Swami Vijnanananda (born Hariprasanna Chattopadhyaya; 30 October 1868 – 25 April 1938) was an Indian monk of Ramakrishna order, born in an upper-class family near Dakshineswar, and was a direct disciple of Ramakrishna. He was an engineer and worked as the District Engineer in the erstwhile State of United Provinces, India.&nbsp;
He was a great scholar of Sanskrit with expertise in religio-philosophical works, astronomy, civil engineering etc. He spent considerable time in Allahabad (Prayag) centre of Ramakrishna Math. He became the President of Ramakrishna Mission in 1937. It was under his presidency and direct supervision that the Ramakrishna Temple at Belur Math was constructed and consecrated.
Hariprasanna Chattopadhyaya was born on 30 October 1868, in a respectable family of Belgharia. He had, in all probability, first seen Ramakrishna on 15 September 1879 at Keshab Chandra Sen's spiritual retreat at Belgharia. When studying in the first or second class of a High School, Hariprasanna saw Ramakrishna at Dewan Govinda Mukherji's house. It was on 18 February 1883 that Hariprasanna, then a student of the St. Xavier's College, went to Dakshineswar with his fellow students Sarat, later Saradananda (Sarat Maharaj), and Barada Pal.&nbsp;
Ramakrishna showed great love and kindness towards Hariprasanna, which bound the latter indissolubly to the former. Hariprasanna took Ramakrishna to be his Master. He however saw the Master only a few more times in his life, as he was compelled to live at Bankipore in Bihar. Hariprasanna's guardians were not in favour of his meeting Ramakrishna. He stayed back in Dakshineswar one night upon request from the Master, and later he divulged that on that night Sri Ramakrishna granted him special spiritual favours.&nbsp;
Vijnanananda later recalled: 'As I approached the Master he asked me to stick out my tongue. When I did so, he drew a figure on it with his finger. My whole body began to tremble, and I felt an unspeakable bliss within.' He was rebuked by his mother and elder sister for the transgression and could not go to see Ramakrishna for a long time, who sent Sarat to bring him along. Ramakrishna made him enter into a deep meditation and gave him intimate knowledge on various facets of spiritual lives.
As a student, Hariprasanna was very spirited and would be upset at the sight of any moral turpitude or social injustice. After passing the First Arts examination from Calcutta, Hariprasanna went to Bankipore in Bihar. He graduated from Patna college and went to study Civil Engineering in Pune. During this time Sri Ramakrishna died and Hariprasanna had a vision of Ramakrishna on the night he died. He completed his diploma in civil engineering (Licentiate in Civil Engineering or L.C.E) from Poona College of Science.&nbsp;
He did not appear for his final examination deliberately in order to help a poor but meritorious student to secure a job, as in those days only the first or second ranked students could get a Government job and Hariprasanna's classmates were of the opinion that he was to stand first or second. At that time, Hariprasanna was financially dependent on his elder sister's husband. The next year, he passed the examination successfully and landed with a Government job.

Rowan Douglas Williams, Baron Williams of Oystermouth, PC, FBA, FRSL, FLSW, is a Welsh Anglican bishop, theologian, and poet. He was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, a position he held from December 2002 to December 2012. Previously the Bishop of Monmouth and Archbishop of Wales, Williams was the first Archbishop of Canterbury in modern times not to be appointed from within the Church of England.
Williams's importance was marked by speculation that the Anglican Communion (in which the Archbishop of Canterbury is the leading figure) was on the verge of fragmentation over disagreements on contemporary issues such as homosexuality and the ordination of women. Williams worked to keep all sides talking to one another. Notable events during his time as Archbishop of Canterbury include the rejection by a majority of dioceses of his proposed Anglican Covenant and, in the final general synod of his tenure, his unsuccessful attempt to secure a sufficient majority for a measure to allow the appointment of women as bishops in the Church of England.
Having spent much of his earlier career as an academic at the universities of Cambridge and Oxford successively, Williams speaks three languages and reads at least nine. After standing down as archbishop, Williams took up the position of chancellor of the University of South Wales in 2014 and served as master of Magdalene College, Cambridge, between 2013 and 2020. He also delivered the Gifford Lectures at the University of Edinburgh in 2013.
Justin Welby succeeded Williams as the Archbishop of Canterbury on 9 November 2012, being crowned in March 2013. On 26 December 2012, 10 Downing Street announced Williams's elevation to the peerage as a life peer so that he could continue to speak in the House of Lords. Following the creation of his title on 8 January and its gazetting on 11 January 2013, he was introduced to the temporal benches of the House of Lords as Baron Williams of Oystermouth on 15 January 2013, sitting as a crossbencher. He retired from the House on 31 August 2020 and from Magdalene College that Michaelmas, returning to Abergavenny, in his former diocese.
Williams did not have a formal curacy until 1980, when he served at St George's, Chesterton, Cambridge, until 1983, after having been appointed a university lecturer in divinity at Cambridge. In 1984 he became dean and chaplain of Clare College, and, in 1986, at the age of 36, he was appointed to the Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Oxford. This position brought with it appointment to a residentiary canonry of Christ Church Cathedral. In 1989 he received the degree of Doctor of Divinity and, in 1990, was elected a Fellow of the British Academy.
Williams, a scholar of the Church Fathers and a historian of Christian spirituality, wrote in 1983 that orthodoxy should be seen "as a tool rather than an end in itself..." It is not something that stands still. Thus "old styles come under increasing strain, new speech needs to be generated." He sees orthodoxy as several "dialogues": a constant dialogue with Christ, crucified and risen, but also that of the community of faith with the world – "a risky enterprise," as he writes. "We ought to be puzzled," he says, "when the gospel does not challenge the world." It may mean that Christians have not understood the kinds of bondage to which the gospel is addressed.
He also wrote that "orthodoxy is inseparable from sacramental practice... The eucharist is the paradigm of that dialogue which is 'orthodoxy'". This stance may help to explain both his social radicalism and his view of the importance of the Church, and thus of the holding together of the Anglican communion over matters such as homosexuality: his belief in the idea of the Church is profound.

Rowan

Ernest van den Haag was a Dutch-born American sociologist, social critic, and author. He was John M. Olin's Professor of Jurisprudence and Public Policy at Fordham University. He was best known for his contributions to National Review. Ernest van den Haag was born in 1914 in The Hague to Moses "Max" Melamerson and Flora Haag Melamerson.&nbsp;
He changed his surname in the early 1940s. While Van den Haag was still young, his family moved to Italy. Van den Haag grew up in Italy and began a life in politics following his education. In the late 1930s, he was a left-wing activist and communist. During this time, Italy was ruled by Benito Mussolini's fascist regime. In 1937, Van den Haag was nearly murdered by a political assassin who shot him five times.&nbsp;
After being shot, he spent nearly three years in prison. Nearly eighteen months of those three years were spent in solitary confinement. After release, fearing re-imprisonment, Van den Haag drifted between European countries in an attempt to evade Italy and Mussolini. In 1940, he made his way to Portugal and fled to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island, not knowing any English.&nbsp;
Living in New York, Van den Haag worked as a busboy and sold vegetables; eventually, he was able to secure admission to the University of Iowa, where a group of faculty members recognized his intellectual gifts and agreed to pay for his tuition. In 1942, Van den Haag graduated with an M.A. in economics. The same year, Van den Haag met the political philosopher Sidney Hook.&nbsp;
His friendship with Hook forever changed Van den Haag, converting him from being a left-wing activist and communist to the opposite end of the spectrum; Van den Haag was now a conservative. Over the years, Van den Haag took a particular interest in the field of capital punishment and the death penalty. His book Punishing Criminals: Concerning a Very Old and Painful Question (1975) developed his reputation as one of the foremost thinkers and proponents of the death penalty. Van den Haag was considered by his colleagues to be an expert on the issue of capital punishment.

Ernest

Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, OCD (c. 1614 – 12 February 1691) served as a lay brother in a Carmelite monastery in Paris. Christians commonly remember him for the intimacy he expressed concerning his relationship to God as recorded in a book compiled after his death, the classic Christian text, The Practice of the Presence of God.
Brother Lawrence was born Nicolas Herman in Hériménil, near Lunéville in the Lorraine region, in modern-day eastern France. His parents were peasants, so his schooling was limited at best. Young Nicholas Herman grew up during the calamitous Thirty Years' War, which devastated central Europe between 1618 and 1648. Herman's poverty forced him into joining the army as a young man, which guaranteed him meals and a small stipend.&nbsp;
Herman claimed an experience that set him on a unique spiritual journey during this period. At the age of 16, he saw a leafless tree in the middle of a battlefield. Realizing that the tree would be in full leaf and flower in a few months, he saw the tree as a symbol of God's ability to transform the human heart.
Following an injury, he fought in the Thirty Years' War, left the army, and served as a valet. In 1635, Nicholas fought against Swedish infantry and French cavalry at Rambervillers, near his home village. He was taken prisoner by German troops on the march and was treated like a spy. They even threatened to hang him. He fearlessly answered that he was not what they suspected. When the soldiers saw his courage, they released him.&nbsp;
The Swedes entered Lorraine and, while passing through the area, attacked the little town of Rambervillers, where he became wounded, leaving him permanently lame (Rambervillers had 2660 inhabitants at the time; eight years later, there were only 400 survivors). The ghastly experience of battle seared his mind to such a degree that he fell back on his religious upbringing and never looked back.&nbsp;
He never spoke of the horrors he had experienced, but the effects remained with him for the rest of his life. After a period of convalescence in his parent's home, he entered the employment of William de Fuibert, treasurer to the king of France. Serving as a footman, Lawrence describes himself as "a great awkward fellow who broke everything."
Thus, when his service as a footman ended, Nicholas sought spiritual fulfillment in the solitude of a hermit's life; he firmly resolved to follow in his uncle's footsteps, a holy Discalced Carmelite. In mid-June, at the age of twenty-six, he entered the Order of Discalced Carmelites on the Rue Vaugirard in Paris as a lay brother. In June 1640, Nicolas joined the Discalced Carmelite Priory in Paris.&nbsp;
He entered the priory as a lay brother and took the religious name "Lawrence of the Resurrection." He made his solemn profession of vows on August 14, 1642. He spent the rest of his life with the Parisian community, where his primary assignments were working in the kitchen and repairing sandals in his later years. He entered fearing 'they would skin him alive' for his awkwardness and faults—as he said in his own unpolished language, often seasoned with humor—but fortunately for himself and his brothers, 'he experienced only satisfaction.'&nbsp;
He carried out this office of a cook until his leg became ulcerated, at which point his superiors assigned him an easier task as a sandal maker. Lawrence suffered from a kind of sciatic gout that made him limp' and worsened over the years. Gradually, the influence of the humble sandal-maker grew, not only among the poor. Many learned people, religious and ecclesiastics, also had esteem for him.
Despite his lowly position in life and the priory, his character attracted many to him. He had a reputation for experiencing profound peace, and visitors came to seek his spiritual guidance. The wisdom he passed on to them in conversations and letters would later become the basis for the book The Practice of the Presence of God. The conversations had been conducted and recorded by a notable cleric, Abbé Joseph de Beaufort, who compiled this work after Brother Lawrence died.
&nbsp;This little book was approved by the Archbishop of Paris, Louis Antoine de Noailles. When the Archbishop of Paris approved the life of Brother Lawrence made by his Grand Vicar and in his own organization, he approved that it is said that this brother "forgot himself and was willing to lose himself for God, That he no longer thought of virtue or his salvation ... that he had always governed himself by love without interest.&nbsp;
The book consists of sixteen short Letters by himself, a short collection of Spiritual Maxims embodying his views, four Conversations, probably written down by M.
