Louise Rafkin is the author of Other People's Dirt and the editor of Different Mothers. She has been a commentator for NPR's All Things Considered and has written for Out Magazine. Her articles and essays frequently appear in the New York Times, Health Magazine, and Metropolitan Home. She lives in Oakland, CA. 

She has published in The Washington Post, Forbes, Health, Via, More, Diablo, San Francisco, Coastal Living, Salon, Ms, Cosmopolitan, and the NYTimes Magazine, among many others. She loves radio and has contributed news and commentary to All Things Considered and other NPR programs. 

When not writing, she is surfing, competitive swimming, traveling to out-there places, or at my martial arts school, Studio Naga, one of the few places outside of Indonesia where you can study Indonesian silat.
