Geoffrey Moore is an author, speaker, and advisor who splits his consulting time between start-up companies in the Wildcat Venture Partners portfolios and established high-tech enterprises, most recently including Salesforce, Microsoft, Autodesk, F5Networks, Gainsight, Google, and Splunk. Moore’s life’s work has focused on the market dynamics surrounding disruptive innovations.
His first book, Crossing the Chasm, focuses on the challenges start-up companies face transitioning from early adoption to mainstream customers. It has sold more than a million copies, and its third edition has been revised such that the majority of its examples and case studies reference companies coming to prominence in the past decade. Moore’s latest business-related work, Zone to Win, addresses the challenge large enterprises face when embracing disruptive innovations, even when it is in their best interests to do so.
It’s time to stop explaining why they don’t and start explaining how they can. This has been the basis of much of his recent consulting. In a significant departure from Moore’s lifetime of business-related consulting, Moore uses his expertise in creating frameworks and applies it to the meaning of life itself and the big question, “What is going on?”. His latest book, The Infinite Staircase: What the Universe Tells Us About Life, Ethics, and Mortality, offers readers a complete look at how the universe has evolved and our ethical place within it.
As Moore says in the book, “Our core sense of good and bad does not come from above. It is neither transcendent nor divine. Rather, it is inherent in our mammalian upbringing.” Irish by heritage, Moore has yet to meet a microphone he didn’t like and gives between 50 and 80 speeches a year. One theme that has received a lot of attention recently is the transition in enterprise IT investment focus from Systems of Record to Systems of Engagement.
This is driving the deployment of new cloud infrastructure to complement the legacy client-server stack, creating massive markets for the next generation of tech industry leaders. Moore has a bachelors in American literature from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Washington. After teaching English for four years at Olivet College, he came back to the Bay Area with his wife and family and began a career in high tech as a training specialist.
Over time he transitioned first into sales and then into marketing, finally finding his niche in marketing consulting, working first at Regis McKenna Inc. The three firms he helped found: Were the Chasm Group, Chasm Institute, and TCG Advisors. Today he is chairman emeritus of all three.

Horowitz is the author of The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers, a book about startups and What You Do Is Who You Are: How to Create Your Business Culture.
Horowitz began his career as an engineer at Silicon Graphics in 1990. In 1995, Horowitz joined Marc Andreessen at Netscape as a product manager. From 1997 to 1998, Horowitz was vice president for the Directory and Security Product Line at Netscape. After AOL acquired Netscape in 1998, Horowitz served as Vice President of AOL's eCommerce Division.
In September 1999, Horowitz cofounded Loudcloud with Andreessen, Tim Howes, and In Sik Rhee. Loudcloud offered infrastructure and application hosting services to enterprise and Internet customers such as Ford Motor Company, Nike, Inc., Gannett Company, News Corporation, the United States Army, and other large organizations. Horowitz took Loudcloud public on March 9, 2001.
In June 2002, Horowitz began a transformation of Loudcloud into Opsware, an enterprise software company. He took the first step by selling Loudcloud's core managed services business to Electronic Data Systems for $63.5 million in cash. This transaction transferred 100% of Loudcloud's revenue to EDS while the company was publicly traded on NASDAQ. Beginning with EDS as its first enterprise software customer, Horowitz grew Opsware to hundreds of enterprise customers, over $100 million in annual revenue, and 550 employees. In July 2007, Horowitz sold Opsware to Hewlett-Packard for $1.6 billion in cash.
Horowitz was Loudcloud's and Opsware's President and Chief Executive Officer for the company's entire history. Along the way, shares of Opsware IPO'ed at $6, sank to $0.35 per share at its nadir and traded at $14.25 a claim at the time of its sale to HP. Following the sale of Opsware to Hewlett-Packard, Horowitz then spent one year at Hewlett-Packard as Vice President and General Manager in HP Software, responsible for 3,000 employees and $2.8 billion in annual revenue.

Eliyahu Moshe Goldratt (March 31, 1947 – June 11, 2011) was an Israeli business management guru. He originated the Optimized Production Technique, the Theory of Constraints (TOC), the Thinking Processes, the Drum-Buffer-Rope, Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM), and other TOC-derived tools. He was the author of several business novels and non-fiction works, mainly on the application of the theory of constraints to various manufacturing, engineering, and other business processes.
The processes are typically modeled as resource flows; the constraints typically represent limits on flows. In his book The Goal, the protagonist is a manager in charge of a troubled manufacturing operation. At any point in time, one particular constraint (such as inadequate capacity at a machine tool) limits total system throughput. When the constraint is resolved, another constraint becomes the critical one. The plot of Goldratt's stories revolves around identifying and raising the current limiting constraint, followed by finding out which is the next limiting constraint.
Another common theme is that the system being analyzed has excess capacity at a number of non-critical points, which, contrary to conventional wisdom, is essential to ensure the constant operation of the constrained resource. Goldratt was born into a rabbinic family, the son of Avraham-Yehuda Goldrat, in British Mandatory Palestine one year prior to Israel's modern statehood. He obtained a BSc degree from Tel Aviv University and MSc and a Ph.D. degree from Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel.
Goldratt died from complications arising from lung cancer on June 11, 2011, at noon, in his home in Israel. After some experience helping Israeli manufacturers, Goldratt left the academic world to join a company called Creative Output. The company developed and sold the Optimized Production Technology (OPT) software package. OPT was billed as the first software to provide finite capacity scheduling for production environments. A number of major publications analyzed this software and the principles behind it.
Goldratt was actively involved in many controversies, such as Cost Accounting v Throughput Accounting culminated in the publication of "A Town Without Walls." Within the company, Goldratt noticed elements that made him uncomfortable. For instance, in the second edition of The Goal, several software implementations did not come close to their estimated potential. After some work, Goldratt discovered that the habits and assumptions (paradigms) of employees and managers prior to using the software were still prominent and negatively influenced results after implementation.
His answer was the book The Goal, which took 13 months to write. After completion, the book was not well received by the company staff and by large publishers. Finally, with help from Larry Gadd, the owner of North River Press, the book was published and became a great success. After a while, Goldratt noticed that many implementations were conducted using the book but not the software. This caused further stress in the company, and Goldratt tried to capture the essence of implementing the solution directly in what is now known as the Drum-Buffer-Rope method.
He published The Race to explain some of the concepts he was working on and developed a course to teach people how to manage their production using a computer simulation game. Goldratt tried to move the company toward "consulting," trying to help people rethink how they did things. Still, Creative Output's declining revenues and Goldratt's involvement with things other than the sales of OPT software convinced the shareholders to fire Goldratt (and, afterward, his closer collaborators).

Sinek has also worked with various organizations and companies to help them better understand and communicate their purpose. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and other events, and business leaders and entrepreneurs have widely adopted his ideas.

Wall Street Journal bestselling author L. David Marquet imagines a workplace where everyone engages and contributes their full intellectual capacity, a place where people are healthier and happier because they have more control over their work. In this place, everyone is a leader. A 1981 U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Captain Marquet served in the U.S. submarine force for 28 years.
After being assigned to command the nuclear-powered submarine USS Santa Fe, then ranked last in retention and operational standing, he realized the traditional leadership approach of “take control, give orders” wouldn’t work. He “turned the ship around” by treating the crew as leaders, not followers, and giving control, not taking control. This approach took Santa Fe from “worst to first,” achieving the highest retention and operational standings in the navy.
After David’s departure from the ship, the Santa Fe continued to win awards and promoted a disproportionate number of officers and enlisted men to positions of increased responsibility, including ten subsequent submarine captains. Further, having been on the ship, Stephen R. Covey said it was the most empowering organization he’d ever seen and written about Captain Marquet’s leadership practices in his book, The 8th Habit.
Captain Marquet is the author of Leadership is Language, Turn the Ship Around! and companion workbook, The Turn the Ship Around Workbook. Fortune magazine called the book the “best how-to manual anywhere for managers on delegating, training, and driving flawless execution.”Captain Marquet retired from the Navy in 2009 and delivers the powerful Intent-Based Leadership message: that leadership is not for the select few at the top.
In highly effective organizations, there are leaders at every level. David speaks to those who want to create empowering work environments that release the passion, initiative, and intellect of each person. His bold and highly effective framework is summarized as “give control, create leaders.” He lives in Florida, is an enthusiastic novice trail runner, and is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Days after being relieved of his duties in Afghanistan, McChrystal announced his retirement.

McChrystal's memoir, My Share of the Task, published by Portfolio of the Penguin Group, was released on January 7, 2013. The autobiography had been scheduled to be released in November 2012 but was delayed due to security clearance approvals required from the Department of Defense. McChrystal is the son of Mary Gardner Bright and Major General Herbert J. McChrystal, Jr., and was the fourth child in a family of five boys and a girl, all of whom would serve in the military or marry military spouses.
