Jeremy N. Smith is a journalist, podcaster, and author. Jeremy has written for The Atlantic, Discover, Slate, and the New York Times, among other outlets, and he and his work have been featured by CNN, NPR, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, and Wired. He hosts the podcasts The Hacker Next Door, Stimulus & Response (with high performance coach Damon Valentino), and You Must Know Everything (with his daughter Rasa).

He is the author of three acclaimed narrative non-fiction books: Breaking and Entering, about a female hacker called “Alien” and the birth of our information insecurity age; Epic Measures, about a 20-year, 500-scientist, $100-million moonshot attempt to track and quantify every illness, injury, and death for everyone on Earth; and Growing a Garden City about building community through local food, farms, and gardens.

The Today Show, the New York Times, Booklist, and Kirkus Reviews call Breaking and Entering a “great” “lively” “riveting” “page-turning real-life thriller.” Bill Gates says Epic Measures is “a fantastic read.” Of Growing a Garden City, Jane Goodall says, “I love this book.”

Jeremy speaks frequently before diverse national audiences, including Apple, Google, the National Academy of Sciences, the Center for Global Development, the Society of Environmental Journalists, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, MinneAnalytics, Town Hall Seattle, the Salt Lake City Public Library, and classes at Harvard University, Dartmouth College, the University of Minnesota, the University of Colorado-Boulder, Oregon State University, and San José State University.

He also cofounded and co-led a writing program for adults in the Missoula County Detention Facility. A graduate of Harvard College and the University of Montana, Jeremy lives in Missoula, Montana, with his wife and daughter.
