Christopher Sommer

Christopher Sommer is a former US national team gymnastics coach, a world-renowned Olympic coach, and the founder of GymnasticBodies. He was a competitive gymnast throughout his youth and was a member of the US National Team from 1976-1980. Sommer was then appointed head coach of the US National Team in 1988, a position he held until his retirement in 2017.

Sommer has been a major figure in the world of gymnastics for decades, training some of the top gymnasts in the world. His coaching style is based on the concept of “functional gymnastics,” which emphasizes strength, mobility, and flexibility. During his time as coach of the US National Team, Sommer helped to develop some of the most successful gymnasts in US history, including Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, and Kerri Strug.

Sommer is also the founder of GymnasticBodies, an online training program for aspiring gymnasts. Through the program, Sommer teaches a variety of gymnastics skills, including handstands, press-to-handstands, l-sits, planches, and other movements. His program has been praised by many of the world’s best gymnasts, including Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, and Aly Raisman.

In addition to his work as a coach, Sommer is also an author. He has written several books on gymnastics, including “Building the Gymnastic Body” and “Gymnastics Mastery.” He has also served as a coach and a consultant for many of the top gymnastics programs in the world, including the USA Gymnastics National Team.
