He resides in Los Angeles, California, and New York City. Lugavere was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City, to parents of Jewish descent. Lugavere graduated with a degree in film and psychology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.
From 2005 to 2011, Lugavere was a presenter on Current TV, an independent cable network. He co-hosted the show Max and Jason: Still Up with Jason Silva, where they featured a wide range of current events and stories ranging from illegal immigration to counterfeit IDs. Lugavere has criticized plant-based and vegan diets for increasing the risk of dementia and mental health problems. He has argued that eggs have been "unfairly demonized" by governments, despite containing choline which he says has been linked to lower dementia risk. Lugavere also recommends regular consumption of red meat for mental health.

Andrew Thomas Weil is an American celebrity doctor who advocates for alternative medicine, including the 4-7-8 breathing technique. Andrew Thomas Weil was born in Philadelphia on June 8, 1942, the only child of parents who operated a millinery store in a Reform Jewish family. He graduated from high school in 1959 and was awarded a scholarship from the American Association for the United Nations, giving him the opportunity to go abroad for a year, living with families in India, Thailand, and Greece.
From this experience, he became convinced that, in many ways, American culture and science were insular and unaware of non-American practices. He began hearing that mescaline enhanced creativity and produced visionary experiences, and finding little information on the subject, he read The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley. Weil entered Harvard University in 1960, majoring in biology with a concentration in ethnobotany.&nbsp;
He had an early curiosity regarding psychoactive drugs, and in that period, he met Harvard psychologists Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert and separately engaged in organized experimentation with mescaline. Weil would write for and eventually serve as an editor of the Harvard Crimson. One published account of the period describes a falling out of Weil from the group that included the faculty—among whom the experimentation with drugs was contentious and, with regard to undergraduates, proscribed; the falling out involved an exposé on drug use and supply that Weil wrote for the Crimson.&nbsp;
Weil's undergraduate thesis was titled "The Use of Nutmeg as a Psychotropic Agent," specifically on the narcotic properties of nutmeg, inspired by a class with David McClelland, chair of the Department of Social Relations and a former director of Harvard's Center for Research in Personality. In 1964, he graduated cum laude with a B.A. in biology.
Weil entered Harvard Medical School "not with the intention of becoming a physician but rather simply to obtain a medical education." He received a medical degree in 1968, although "the Harvard faculty ... threatened to withhold it because of a controversial marijuana study Weil had helped conduct" in his final year. Weil moved to San Francisco and completed a one-year medical internship at Mount Zion Hospital in 1968–69. While there, he volunteered at the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic.[citation needed] Weil completed one year of a two-year program at NIH, resigning due to "official opposition to his work with marijuana."
Following his internship, Weil took a position with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) that lasted approximately one year to pursue his interests in research on marijuana and other drugs; during this time, he may have received formal institutional permission to acquire marijuana for the research.
Weil is reported to have experienced opposition to this line of inquiry at the NIMH, to have departed to his rural northern Virginia home (1971-1972), and to have begun his practices of vegetarianism, yoga, and meditation, and work on writing The Natural Mind (1972). At the same time, Weil began an affiliation with the Harvard Botanical Museum that would span from 1971 to 1984, where his work included duties as a research associate investigating "the properties of medicinal and psychoactive plants." His interests led him to explore the healing systems of indigenous people. With this aim, Weil traveled throughout South America and other parts of the world, "collecting information about medicinal plants and healing," from 1971 to 1975 as a fellow for the Institute of Current World Affairs.
In 1994, Weil founded the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona, where he serves as its director. Andrew Weil is the founder of True Food Kitchen, a restaurant chain serving meals on the premise that food should make you feel better. There are currently 32 restaurants in the chain.

Andrew

Dean Michael Ornish (born July 16, 1953) is an American physician and researcher. He is the president and founder of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. The author of Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease, Eat More, Weigh Less, and The Spectrum, he is an advocate for using diet and lifestyle changes to treat and prevent heart disease.
Ornish, a native of Dallas, Texas, graduated from Dallas's Hillcrest High School. He is of Judaic heritage. He holds a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in Humanities from the University of Texas at Austin, where he gave the baccalaureate address. He earned his MD from the Baylor College of Medicine, completed a medical internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (1981–1984), and was a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Ornish is known for his lifestyle-driven approach to controlling coronary artery disease (CAD) and other chronic diseases. He promotes lifestyle changes, including quasi-whole foods, plant-based diet, smoking cessation, moderate exercise, stress management techniques, yoga and meditation, and psychosocial support. While Ornish promotes a Plant-based diet, he does not advocate for a strictly vegan diet, as his program allows for the occasional consumption of other animal products.
From the 1970s through the 1990s, Ornish and others researched the impact of diet and stress levels on people with heart disease. The research, published in peer-reviewed journals, became the basis of his "Program for Reversing Heart Disease." It combined diet, meditation, exercise, and support groups, and in 1993 became the first non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical therapy for heart disease to qualify for insurance reimbursement. Except for chiropractic care, it was the first alternative medical technique not taught in traditional medical-school curricula to gain approval from a major insurance carrier.
Ornish worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for 16 years to create a new coverage category called intensive cardiac rehabilitation (ICR), which focuses on comprehensive lifestyle changes. In 2010, Medicare began to reimburse costs for Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease, a 72-hour ICR for people who have had heart attacks, chest pain, heart valve repair, coronary artery bypass, heart or lung bypass, or coronary angioplasty or stenting. In addition to the Ornish program, Medicare and Medicaid pay for ICR programs created by the Pritikin Longevity Center and the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Ornish has been a physician consultant to former President Bill Clinton since 1993 when Hillary Clinton asked Ornish to consult with the chefs at The White House, Camp David, and Air Force One. In 2010, after the former President's cardiac bypass grafts became clogged, Clinton, encouraged by Ornish, followed a mostly plant-based diet. In 2011, Barack Obama appointed Ornish to the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health.

Dr. Valter Longo is the Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and Biological Sciences and Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California –Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, Los Angeles, one of the leading centers for research on aging and age-related disease. Dr. Longo is also the Director of the Longevity and Cancer Program at the IFOM Institute of Molecular Oncology in Milan, Italy.
Dr. Longo studied biochemistry as an undergraduate at the University of North Texas and received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCLA, where he worked under calorie restriction guru Roy Walford, MD. He completed his postdoctoral training in neurobiology with longevity pioneer Caleb Finch, Ph.D. He also received extensive training in immunology, endocrinology, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, and pathology.
His studies focus on the fundamental mechanisms of aging in simple organisms and mice and on how these mechanisms can be translated to humans. The Longo laboratory has identified some of the key genetic pathways that regulate aging in simple organisms and has demonstrated that the inactivation of such pathways can reduce the incidence or progression of multiple diseases in mice and humans. His laboratory has also developed both dietary and genetic interventions that protect normal cells while sensitizing cancer cells to chemotherapy interventions now being tested in many US and European hospitals.
The Longo laboratory recently published key findings on a 5-day periodic dietary intervention called Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD). It showed in randomized clinical trials that FMD reduces the risk factors and markers associated with aging and diseases. Dr. Longo’s most recent studies focus on the use of FMD interventions to activate stem cell-based regeneration to promote longevity.

Valter

Thomas Colin Campbell is an American biochemist specializing in nutrition's effect on long-term health. He is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University.
Campbell has become known for advocating a low-fat, whole-foods, plant-based diet. He claims responsibility for coining the term "Plant-Based diet" to help present his research on a diet at the National Institutes of Health in 1980. He is the author of over 300 research papers and four books, The China Study (2005, co-authored with his son, Thomas M. Campbell II, which became one of America's best-selling books about nutrition), Whole (2013), The Low-Carb Fraud (2014) and The Future of Nutrition: An Insider's Look at the Science, Why We Keep Getting It Wrong, and How to Start Getting It Right (2020) Campbell featured in the 2011 American documentary Forks Over Knives.
Campbell was one of the lead scientists of the China–Cornell–Oxford Project on diet and disease, set up in 1983 by Cornell University, the University of Oxford, and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine to explore the relationship between nutrition and cancer, heart, and metabolic diseases. The study was described by The New York Times as "the Grand Prix of epidemiology."
Campbell joined MIT as a research associate, then worked for ten years in the Virginia Tech Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to Cornell in 1975 to join its Division of Nutritional Sciences. In addition, he has worked as a senior science adviser to the American Institute for Cancer Research and sits on the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine advisory board.
He is known in particular for research, derived in part from the China study, that appears to link the consumption of animal protein with the development of cancer and heart disease. For example, he argues that casein, a protein found in mammal milk, is "the most significant carcinogen we consume."
Campbell has followed a "99% vegan" diet since around 1990. He does not identify himself as a vegetarian or vegan because, he said, "they often infer something other than what I espouse." He told the New York Times: "The idea is that we should be consuming whole foods. We should not rely on the idea that genes determine our health. We should not depend on the idea that nutrient supplementation is the way to get nutrition because it's not. I'm talking about Whole, plant-based foods.
He has been a member 1978 of several United States National Academy of Sciences expert panels on food safety and holds an honorary professorship at the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. Jocko Willink is an American retired Navy Seal officer, author, podcaster, and public speaker. He is best known for his involvement in the Battle of Ramadi, his success in the Navy SEALs, and his leadership philosophy, which is based on discipline, hard work, and respect for others.

After graduating, Huffington began her career as a writer and commentator and was a prominent conservative commentator in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s. She later moved to the United States, where she continued her career as a political commentator and became a naturalized citizen in 1990.

John Joseph Ratey is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is the co-author, with Edward Hallowell, of the books Driven to Distraction, Answers to Distraction, and Delivered from Distraction. Like Hallowell, Ratey claims that he's got ADHD himself, but like Hallowell, he's never been officially diagnosed with it apart from a self-diagnosis.

Fuhrman was born in New York City, on December 2, 1953. He is Jewish. He was a competitor in the amateur figure skating circuit. He was a member of the US World Figure Skating Team and placed second in the US National Pairs Championship in 1973. In 1973, he suffered a heel injury which prevented him from competing. Fuhrman claims that an alternative medicine therapy recommended by a naturopath helped speed his recovery, and led him to become interested in alternative medicine.
He came in 3rd place at the 1976 World Professional Pairs Skating Championship in Jaca, Spain, skating with his sister, Gale Fuhrman, but due to short-term massive muscle loss from fasting was unable to make the Olympic team. In 1988, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Fuhrman is a board-certified family physician and serves as Director of Research for the Nutritional Research Foundation.
Fuhrman has advocated eating at least one pound of raw vegetables and another pound of cooked vegetables each day with an emphasis on green vegetables along with beans, onions, mushrooms, berries, nuts and seeds. He also recommends eating at least one cup of beans a day to benefit from the resistant starch and increased satiety. The Nutritarian diet does not allow dairy products, animal products, snacks between meals, fruit juice, oils or processed foods.
Fuhrman popularized the notion of nutrient density in what he calls the Health Equation: Health = Nutrients/Calories (abbreviated as H = N/C). Peter Lipson, a physician and writer on alternative medicine, has been heavily critical of Fuhrman's health equation, writing that since its terms cannot be quantified, it is "nothing more than a parlor trick". Fuhrman created what he calls the "Aggregate Nutrient Density Index" or ANDI, a ranking of foods based on his claims of micronutrient concentration and kale is at the top of this list.&nbsp;
Whole Foods began using the scores as a marketing project and reported that the sales of high scoring foods "skyrocketed". David Gorski has commented that Fuhrman has promoted a vitalistic view of food and the pseudoscientific idea of detoxification. Fuhrman has heavily marketed his products and his infomercials have "become a staple during the self-improvement bloc of PBS pledge drives."
In the October 2012 edition of Men's Journal, Mark Adams stated that Fuhrman "preaches something closer to fruitarianism or Christian Science than to conventional medical wisdom". Adams also reported that Fuhrman believes that the flu vaccine "isn't effective at all". Dietician Carolyn Williams has described Fuhrman's nutritarian diet as a fad diet. According to Williams "This can be helpful for people who feel stuck in their weight loss journey and want to totally reset or detox their diet following a holiday or vacation.&nbsp;
Although this diet is marketed as an eating pattern, it is essentially a fad diet. Those who do try this diet should go into it knowing that it is not sustainable for everyone long-term, and is only a temporary quick fix to lose weight." Harriet Hall who reviewed Fuhrman's nutritarian diet commented that he tends to incorrectly assume association studies show causation and that his diet has not been tested in controlled trials. Hall stated that "Fuhrman makes extraordinary claims for the Nutritarian diet, but extraordinary claims must be supported by extraordinary evidence, and the evidence he presents is far from compelling."
