Gary Halbert taught that good selling is written primarily to make money. His secret methods of selling shook up the direct marketing world. Many of Gary's methods are still used today in the internet world. Gary started by publishing a newsletter. He did very little promotion and found himself with readers from all over the word.

When Gary's subscriptions started growing, he started to offer a lifetime subscription for over $1000. Soon, many of his subscribers became lifers. Halbert realized that his knowledge was important to share with the world, and he began to offer it for free. He built a even larger client base with the free information than he could with any other way.

Gary Halbert in my opinion was one of the most creative minds in the field of direct marketing. Even though Halbert was a genius, he would speak in very simple English and use many stories so that everyone could understand his teachings.

Gary Halbert died on April 8, 2007. He left behind one of the most incredible legacies in the direct marketing world, and his ideas continue to influence great copywriters around the globe. He delivers marketing information in a powerful style, without all the BS. Here is a recording from a Group M Marketing seminar in Hot Springs, Arkansas, put on by Bill Myers in the early 1990s.
