Bernhelm Booss-Bavnbek, Ph.D. (in Bonn under F. Hirzebruch). He is an emeritus for mathematics and mathematical modeling in the Mathematics-Physics Group IMFUFA at Roskilde University (Denmark), where he has been for more than 30 years. He is known for his work in global analysis and spectral geometry. He is also known to a larger audience as a textbook writer and editor with a lively interest in a broad sweep of mathematics, applications of mathematics, and communication about mathematics.

Among his research monographs is the recent monumental Index theory with D. Bleecker, the now classical treatise with Krzysztof Wojciechowski, Elliptic boundary problems for Dirac operators; with Jens Høyrup as coeditor, Mathematics, and war, and as main editor, BetaSys: Systems biology of regulated exocytosis in pancreatic β-cells.
