Terry Laughlin was an American swimming coach and author, best known as the founder and head coach of Total Immersion swimming, a method of swimming instruction based on the idea of natural and efficient movement in the water. He was considered one of the leading experts in the field of swimming technique and coaching and was widely respected for his innovative approach to teaching swimming.

Laughlin began swimming as a child and went on to swim competitively at the college level. After college, he began coaching and teaching swimming and eventually developed his method, Total Immersion. This method emphasizes a holistic approach, including proper body positioning, balance, and the use of core muscles, rather than just the traditional focus on arm and leg movements. The method was based on the idea that anyone can swim well, regardless of size or strength, by focusing on proper technique and body mechanics.

Laughlin published several books on his method, including "Total Immersion: The Revolutionary Way to Swim Better, Faster, and Easier" and "The Swimming Bible: The Complete Guide to Mastering the Sport." He also hosted swim camps and clinics and was a popular speaker at swimming events. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2017, but his legacy and teaching method inspire many people to improve their swimming and enjoy the sport.
