Susan Joy Fowler, now known as Susan Rigetti after getting married to Chad Rigetti in 2017, is a software engineer, author, and public speaker who has become an advocate for the tech industry and an icon for gender equality. She is best known for her influential blog post detailing her experience with sexual harassment and discrimination while working at Uber, which led to several positive changes in the tech industry.

She continues to be an advocate for gender equality and a role model for tech professionals around the world by speaking out on the importance of diversity in the tech industry and fiercely advocating for those who have experienced discrimination and harassment.

Fowler was born in Arizona in 1988 and grew up in a Mormon family. She received her Bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 and began her career working as a software engineer at Microsoft. After two years at Microsoft, she joined the software development team at Uber in 2014.

It was at Uber that Fowler experienced the harassment and discrimination that she wrote about in her blog post. She recounted how her manager propositioned her and the lack of action taken by the human resources department when she reported it. The blog post quickly went viral, leading to a wave of changes at Uber, including an internal investigation and the eventual resignation of CEO Travis Kalanick.

After leaving Uber, Fowler wrote a book about her experiences, “Resilient: How I Learned to Survive and Thrive in the Tech Industry.” She has since become an advocate for change in the tech industry, speaking at numerous conferences and events. In addition, she created a website, susanfowler.com, to provide resources and advice to other women in the tech industry. She is the founder of the #susanfowler initiative, designed to help women in tech feel empowered, supported, and inspired.

Fowler has been recognized for her work with numerous awards, including the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award and the TechCrunch Crunchie Award for Social Impact. In addition, she has been listed as one of the most influential people in tech and has been featured in numerous publications, including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.

Fowler continues to be an advocate for gender equality and a role model for tech professionals around the world. She continues to speak out on the importance of diversity in the tech industry and is a fierce advocate for those who have experienced discrimination and harassment.
