Soman Chainani is an Indian American novelist and screenwriter best known for his fantasy fiction novel series, The School For Good and Evil. The series follows two best friends from the village of Gavaldon, Sophie, and Agatha, as they are spirited away to The School For Good and Evil, where they must choose between a fairy-tale life of success or an adventurous life of danger. The six books in the series are The School For Good and Evil, A World Without Princes, The Last Ever After, Quests for Glory, A Crystal of Time, and One True King.

Soman Chainani was born in Mumbai, India, and moved to the United States when he was nine years old. He studied film at Harvard University and wrote several screenplays that Hollywood studios optioned. He also wrote and co-directed an independent feature film starring Tilda Swinton called A Little Something For Your Birthday.

In 2012, Chainani began work on The School For Good and Evil, a fantasy novel series that follows the adventures of two best friends, Sophie and Agatha, in the magical world of Gavaldon. The novel was a New York Times bestseller and was followed by five sequels, A World Without Princes, The Last Ever After, Quests for Glory, A Crystal of Time, and One True King.

The series has been praised for its imaginative world-building, strong female characters, and themes of friendship, loyalty, and courage. Chainani has also written a companion series called The Camelot Years, which follows beloved characters from the School for Good and Evil in their younger years as they prepare for the fateful adventure that will change their lives.

Soman Chainani has also written a middle-grade novel called The Epic Tale of the Beast and a picture book called Princess Pandemonium. He is the co-creator of the Emmy-nominated Netflix series, The School for Good and Evil, which was released in 2021.

In addition to his writing, Soman Chainani is also an accomplished screenwriter. He is also the co-creator of the Netflix series The School for Good and Evil, which was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2021.
