Matt Damon is an American actor, film producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning role in the film Good Will Hunting, for which he wrote the screenplay with his friend Ben Affleck. He has also starred in popular films such as The Bourne Identity, The Departed, The Martian, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Damon was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and raised in nearby suburbs. He attended Harvard University, where he studied English, but dropped out to pursue an acting career. His first film role was a small part in the 1988 film Mystic Pizza. He soon landed larger roles in films such as School Ties and Geronimo: An American Legend.

Damon had his breakthrough role in 1997 with the lead role in Good Will Hunting, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He won several other awards for the film, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. After Good Will Hunting, Damon appeared in several successful films, including The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Bourne Identity, Ocean's Eleven, and The Departed.

In 2015, Damon starred in the science fiction film The Martian, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. He has also starred in several other science fiction films, including Elysium and The Adjustment Bureau.

Damon is also an active philanthropist. In 2010, he founded the H2O Africa Foundation to bring clean water to African countries. He has also supported other causes, such as AIDS research, education, and global health. In 2016, he was appointed as a UN Messenger of Peace with a focus on water access and sanitation. 

Damon is an avid supporter of progressive politics and has been involved in campaigns to raise awareness about various social issues. In 2009, he co-founded the not-for-profit organization Water.org to help provide access to safe water and sanitation in developing countries. He is also a vocal advocate for renewable energy and has spoken out against the use of fossil fuels. In 2017, he was honored with the Harvard Arts Medal for his contributions to film and philanthropy.

Damon has also been married to Luciana Bozán Barroso since 2005. They have four daughters together.
