Cory Booker is an American politician and attorney currently serving as the junior United States Senator from New Jersey. He began his political career as a member of the Newark City Council, where he served from 1998 to 2002. He then ran for Mayor of Newark and was elected in 2006, becoming the city's youngest mayor in over 100 years. During his tenure as mayor, Booker focused on improving public safety, education, and economic development in Newark. He also gained national attention for using social media to connect with citizens and for his efforts to bring private investment into the city.

In 2013, Booker ran for the United States Senate, winning a special election to fill the vacant seat after Frank Lautenberg's death. He was re-elected to a full term in 2014 and then again in 2020.
