Josh Waitzkin is an American chess prodigy, international martial arts champion, and author. He was the basis for the book and film “Searching for Bobby Fischer”, which portrayed his childhood rise to the top of the competitive chess world. Born just as World War II broke out, Waugh hardly saw his father until he was five. He went on to begin a philosophy, politics, and economics degree at Christ Church, Oxford, where he held an exhibition in English. As a result of his injuries, he lost his spleen, one lung, several ribs, and a finger and suffered from pain and recurring infections for the rest of his life. While lying on the ground waiting for an ambulance, his platoon sergeant kept him alive, providing vital first aid. He was first treated for his injuries at Nicosia General Hospital. While recuperating from the accident in Italy, he began his first novel, The Foxglove Saga.

Norton's addictive personality began to direct toward sex after he got sober.
After being sober for around three years, Norton obtained his GED. He attended Middlesex County College with the aim of pursuing a Juris Doctor degree and becoming a lawyer, but he quit after one month. He earned a B grade in English and failing grades in Problems and Statistics, Science, and Western Civilization. At 18, he took up work in a copper company, operating a forklift to unload boxed tubes of copper from trucks, which he remembered as being "awful." He was fired from the job at age 23. Norton collected unemployment benefits for several years, pretending to look for work while doing sets in local comedy venues before he decided to pursue comedy full-time.
